Views of Hoi An by Daniel Schürer
27 March @ 1:00 pm - 5 April @ 6:00 pmFree
Daniel Schürer, born in Germany, works as an industrial designer. Most of his projects are commissioned by Swiss watch companies and manufacturers of luxury items. As a balance to this more technical design work, he also pursues handicraft and artistic activities.
As a water colour enthusiast, he is a member of Urban Sketchers Penang, where he participated in the exhibition “See George Town one drawing at a time”. His range of bamboo lights, developed with a bamboo craftsman from Vietnam, has been exhibited at March Gallery and Anantara Resort in Hoi An, Vietnam. His other field of interest is printmaking, especially linocut prints. The reduction of a scene to black and white, the difficulty of estimating the outcome of the artwork during the process and the challenging production are all part of the interest in this activity.
This exhibition during Open Studios Penang is of linocut prints of typical street scenes in Hoi An, Vietnam, where Daniel lived for three years before moving to Penang. They are printed on brown worship paper that he bought on a countryside market in Ha Giang province.
