Studio Practice is a Fine Art sub-field in the Masters and PhD programmes of the School of The Arts at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). There are seven students from both programmes currently doing their postgraduate studies in fine art studio practice. Some of the students are professional artists practising with years of experience. Each student has their own work space in the Postgraduate Studio.
The students’ creative research includes the figurative representation of urban society, contemporary representation of Pohon Beringin in loop animation, contemporary Islamic painting, the anxieties of consumer culture through collage-painting, the rejection and acceptance in the subjectivity of body, and others. Visitors get to experience the postgraduate students’ working culture in the studio and view their artworks during Open Studios Penang. Visitors can interact with local and international students regarding their creative practice and academic experience , or simply have a conversation with the students and staff of USM.
The participating students are Zhang Fan, Choy Chun Wei, Haris Abadi, Fadi Rahim Abdel Latif, Yeow Lin Shan, Tang Tze Lye, and Ang Li
