Artist Statement
I had been painting since I was 12 years + under the tutelage of our beloved Art teacher: Encik Yaacob bin Abdul Kadir. In a residential school being away from home for the first time, art has always been fun activities, an effective way in helping us overcoming homesickness. We would be under the trees, or sitting in the middle of the field, studying light, perspective and observing the horizons. I especially love our discussions on tone and color mixtures, how prime colourscould be mixed producing secondary or tertiary colors of stronger characters with wider applications. Soon we were ‘promoted’ to play with clay and mould and pottery. And then we team work on school projects that needed our ‘artistic’ touch.
Those school girls days had long been gone, but as we took the first step embarking our own journey into the bewilderment of life, painting during free time seemed like the most natural thing to do. So I carried the habit with me all into my adult iife. What used to be fun, has evolved into something else. It has become a mode of expression that varies according to time, place, situations and convictions. J
The paintings become seasonal…like the rain, the snow, the storm , the sun and the blossoming flowers of spring. I will continue to paint for as long as I live. I aspire to incorporate art in my working humanitarian doctor’s life J and that all school art classes in Malaysia to be fun and lively. Reading is essential….but painting is most natural!.
