The Thread of Life, by Dayang

Dayang’s exhibition at ChinaHouse is called The Thread of Life. Old pictures tend to trigger nostalgia. The pictures used for the thread of life are negatives taken in 1936 in various places in Asia and the Middle East. Like a journal, these images tell a story about the past.
She has enriched these black and white images to combine the past with her perception of life. Experiences that we ‘gathered’ are like dots and life is the line that connects them. Each individual’s line could be curvy, straight and zig-zagged. By threading these old images with colourful threads, light is shed on cherished memories of the past. The threads resemble a vision of how the past intertwines with the present.
