The Contested Image: Copyright, Creativity and the Claims of Artists

Join the renowned lawyer and advocate of the arts, Lee Khai, as he talks about the pressing issues of ownership, copyright and intellectual property of art, and how the rights of artists to their original work can be secured.
➽ The talk
Artists borrow. Artists appropriate. Artists are inspired. But when does borrowing become copying — and when does copying become infringement? In a world that is increasingly encroached upon by AI, this issue is becoming ever more urgent. Through intriguing art world case studies, Lee Khai explores the legal boundaries between inspiration, imitation, appropriation, parody and plagiarism, and asks the deceptively simple question: who really owns art?
