Ananda Swaroop is largely a self-taught artist with a profound passion for watercolours. For her, the medium is a source of endless fascination, offering moments of discovery as water shapes pigments into fluid, luminous forms. She finds herself captivated by the interplay of chance and control, as pigments glide, merge, and dissolve, creating textures and translucent layers that magically transform into eloquent images. It is this unpredictability and spontaneity that draws
her most deeply to watercolour. Her artistic focus gravitates toward contemporary landscapes, with a particular love for capturing the trees and foliage of her Delhi neighbourhood. Ananda’s experiments with mixed media in watercolour earned her the Merit Award in the “LANDSCAPE” category at the 2023 (Autumn) Malaysia International Online Juried Art Competition. Her work was featured in both the participant exhibition and the festival catalogue at the “Colours of Armenia” International Watercolour Festival 2024 in Yerevan, Armenia. Her serious engagement with art practice began in 2019; in her other life, she is a professional writer and editor.
