Needles and Threads Tote Bag Sesh

Ariel Ong (b.2002) is an artist living in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Her work incorporates mixed-media elements like embroidery, knitting, painting, beads, and fabric. Ong’s artistic practice often delves into themes of identity, cultural narratives, and societal expectations. Growing up in Saigon and Shanghai has given her a larger worldview, deepening her appreciation for diversity and love for the artisans she encountered on the streets of these vibrant cities, who create handmade items. Ong’s work seeks to bridge the personal with the universal, encouraging viewers to reflect on their identities and connections to the world around them.
In August 2024, Ong completed a one-month artist residency at Bon Ton Locale, Langkawi, where she further developed her approach to exploring cultural and societal narratives. She exhibited at the Perak Contemporary Art Festival’s group show in October 2024, showcasing her ability to blend personal and socio-political themes through distinctive mixed-media creations.
The workshop will be on on Friday, March 14th from 12-6pm. RM 35 per person. DM https://www.instagram.com/maos.curio.rs/ to book.
