Jakob Zuyten is a self-taught photographer originally from Laholm, Sweden, now based in Penang. He started working with photography in a company run with friends, in Gothenburg, Sweden in 2010. The past few years Jakob has been working in the city of Paris, primarily with fashion and press photography. In recent years Jakob shifted from purely digital work to film photography and is today working mainly with 35mm and 120mm film.

The idea with “Leftovers” is bring up the discussion about certain animals being seen as “unclean” from some peoples point of view, when there are others who celebrate and worship them.
Artist’s statement: In today’s society we commonly define ourselves by what we consume. Unfortunately, the consumption is often in great excess: we go out to buy, spend, consume, then throw away. If they do not end up in the ocean, our leftovers are easily found in the streets and become the daily meals of abandoned animals. These animals that nobody wants, that we chase from our homes, can also be identified as leftovers. The result of a lack of care, attention, and overconsumption.
These animals suitably reflect our society: a lack of humanism?
It was with the intent to touch the hearts of people that I created this series of photos. Even though they are animals, take a second and really look at them, to see what emotions you can find.
