Two of Hanoi’s leading artists, Ha Manh Thang (born 1980) and Pham Huy Thong (born 1981) talk about life as an artist in Vietnam and their exhibition here in Penang.
The art works are being made specially for this show, which will be their first ever joint exhibition in Penang.
Ha Manh Thang and Pham Huy Thong are two of Vietnam’s most important young painters, whose careers have blossomed over the past decade, with their works featuring in numerous international exhibitions, Biennales and leading private and public collections throughout the world.
Early in their careers, both artists were selected as young artists to watch in Singapore Art Museum’s 2008 pivotal show in ‘Post-Doi Moi: Vietnamese Art After 1990’
The artists cleverly frame traditional elements from Vietnam’s history and culture within a modern interpretation and commentary on social history.
