Artist Yayoi Kusama and experts discuss her life and work, from her modest beginnings in Japan to becoming an internationally renowned artist.
KUSAMA Princess of Polka Dots explores artist Yayoi Kusama’s journey from a conservative upbringing in Japan to her brush with fame in America during the 1960s (where she rivaled Andy Warhol for press attention) and concludes with the international fame she has finally achieved within the art world. Now in her 80s, Kusama has spent the last 30 years living in a mental institution in Japan.
Open Studios Penang is a not-for-profit annual art happening designed for artists to exchange ideas with fellow artists, and for the public to meet the artists, see them at work, and hear directly from them about their creative process and methodology. It is a unique opportunity to see a vibrant range of art from all over Penang, Malaysia and beyond. It is funded entirely by donations and by the artists and venues themselves, and is organised entirely by a team of volunteers.
