Hand-Colouring Photography Walk-in Workshop, by Ignacio de Juana

Hand-colouring refers to any method of manually adding colour to a black-and-white photograph, generally either to heighten the realism of the photograph or for artistic purposes. Hand-colouring is also known as hand painting or overpainting. The artist uses this technique to add a new and different dimension to his black and white photographs hand-colouring  them with watercolours.

Spanish-born Ignacio de Juana lived in Kuala Lumpur for two and a half years and has recently moved to George Town to open his own studio here. He has been exhibiting since 2000, in Spain, Thailand, Greece and Malaysia. Amongst others, he participated in the 8 Cities Art Meets Photography in 2019, representing Madrid, Spain, and organised by the Malaysian Advanced Photographer Group in collaboration with Taiwan Hualien County Government Cultural Bureau to exhibit multi-cultural visual art forms from calligraphy, painting to photography

He will be working at his open studio and exhibiting his works during Open Studios Penang, March 27th-29th, and April 3-5th, 9am-12pm and 5pm-10pm.From March 6th to April 5th, every day except Tuesdays, 9am-12am & 6pm-10pm he also will offer walk-in Hand-colouring Photography Workshops where you can learn how to overpaint a black and white photo. He will also offer walk-in workshops from March 6th-30th, every day except Tuesdays, 9am-12am & 6pm-10pm. The workshops last 90 minutes, and the cost is RM 150, all materials provided.
