100 Paintings Project with Melinda Yeoh

Melinda Yeoh is a Penang-based artist. She began pursuing art more seriously in 2021, and her art pieces have found homes in Malaysia, Portugal, and France. Her work has been presented in two group exhibitions in Kuala Lumpur. Her paintings are inspired by observations from places and daily life. With a love of colour and a sense of playfulness, she creates work that invites us to notice the beauty in our world.
Between December 2025 and June 2026, she created 100 small acrylic gouache paintings, with an emphasis on attentiveness rather than outcomes—showing up, doing the work, and paying attention to what emerged. Towards the end of the project, she began focusing on what she is naturally drawn to paint: observations from places and daily life. This led to a more cohesive body of work, some of which will be shown in the exhibition, alongside newer paintings that continue to explore these subjects.
Melinda will give a short talk (5-8 minutes) about her work each day of Open Studios Penang, in which she will share previously unshared logs documenting the project, offering a glimpse into the thoughts and decisions behind the paintings. She’ll share why she committed to the 100 Paintings Project, what she learnt from making 100 paintings, and what emerged from the process—including the work on show. She is happy to respond to questions after the talk or informally at any time during the Meet the Artist sessions.
The talk times will be
Friday 16th October, 7 pm (Meet the Artist 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm)
Saturday 17th October, 2.30pm (Meet the Artist 2 pm – 4 pm)
Sunday 18th October, 2.30pm (Meet the Artist 2 pm – 4 pm)
